By 1850, large urban centers and small towns alike began a concerted effort to improve fire fighting capability. Although volunteer departments existed before the nation's founding, the appearance of new equipment transformed what was once a noble community-minded service into a specialized profession. Huge new horse-drawn tank trucks sped to burning buildings, accompanied by the stationhouse dog--and Dalmatians are now irrevocably linked to this important job.
Teamed with firefighters, Dalmatians guarded the station and stables in their down time, and literally led the way whenever the company sprang to action. In this new role, they proved so loyal and hard-working that firefighters were loathe to part with them, even after motorized vehicles replaced clunky wagons. Many stations in the U.S., Canada, and England still house Dalmatians, who continue to aid their human colleagues.
Jo Jo Design's Fire Truck collection salutes the heroes who keep us safe every day--including those of the canine persuasion. These soft and durable 100% cotton linens and matching accessories combine solid azure with homey tan plaid and red and black accents to create a vibrant but cozy space.
Superb craftsmanship and tastefully understated design are evident in every inch of the lovely comforter. A large center field of azure features masterfully quilted spirals, enhancing the set's energetic ambience. The top of the blanket includes bright red fire truck appliques. The entire piece is bordered with tan plaid.
The bumper alternates images of trucks, hydrants, and Dalmatians with panels of solid azure. The top and bottom are trimmed with plaid, which is also used as the backing material.
