Gliders and rockers are a necessity for any well-planned nursery. There was a time when rocking chairs were the choice of seat for late night feedings, but modern nursery gliders and gliders with ottomans have taken over. It's probably because the upholstered glider is much more comfortable. Classic rocking chairs can be made more comfortable with strategically placed cushions. Wood rocking chairs still have a place in the modern nursery and are often a better choice than a glider rocker if you have a child with early asthma, health problems or allergies. Unlike cushions and upholstery, the wood doesn't hold dust and allergens. Choosing nursery gliders can be challenging sometimes because the selection is so large. Whatever chair you choose to purchase, make sure it's sturdy. It should also be quiet. Not much is going to much more annoying than a chair that squeaks, even ever-so-slightly, every time you move. Make sure the chair doesn't squeak or groan when you get up too. You don't want a loud squeak to wake up a finally sleeping baby when you're exhausted in the middle of the night. Shermag glider rockers generally have good reviews and each has a steel-encased ball bearing that allows it to have a smooth, noiseless gliding motion.
