In 1930, movie theater operators weren't getting much sleep. For families struggling just to keep food on the table, parting with their scant cash to watch a moving picture was completely out of the question. By 1933, ticket sales had plummeted 56%. Desperate businessmen took action: they slashed ticket prices, and offered door prizes. They also began to screen double features and matinees in an attempt to lure care-worn Americans eager to escape the grim realities that surrounded them. By 1934, attendance began to climb, and increased steadily despite tough times--or perhaps because of them.
In big cities and small towns alike, poor people of all ages crowded to watch Fred and Ginger dance their way around lavish sets in shimmering clothes. Icons like Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, and Katherine Hepburn starred in pointedly lighthearted films set in extravagantly decorated mansions and five-star hotels--and viewers who could never afford such accommodations were free to dream for a few precious hours.
JoJo Designs' elegant Hotel Blue collection would be right at home in any of those films. The set uses a simple Art Deco-inspired layout to create a relaxing nursery that is both vintage and very hip. 100% soft and durable easy care cotton in light blue and rich chocolate comprise the whole of this set.
Radiating rectangles account for the quilt's striking sense of depth and movement. Narrow and wider widths of brown are alternated with fields of blue. The entire blanket is enclosed with a chocolate border.
The blue wrap around bumper is intersected with both thin and wide brown lines. The entire piece is backed with the same design and finished with chocolate ties. The sophisticated look is enhanced by a well-tailored dust ruffle, which is punctuated with a crisp center pleat. A contrasting fitted chocolate sheet completes the bedding group.
Times may be tough right now, but this surprisingly affordable set will leave you and your little one dreaming happy dreams.
