Hula has been through several transformations in its long and noble existence. Although just about everyone knows that Hula is Polynesian, few know much about the origins of the various forms of the dance.
Pacific Islanders agree that the first versions of hula were deeply sacred in nature. Groups chanted stories that were simultaneously narrated through the movements of dancers. Later, hula began to record all aspects of family life. In other words, hula is an early form of storytelling, similar to the oral traditions of both Native Americans and African-Americans.
In 2000, a young Stanford graduate and student of hula named Maile Loo-Ching asked her aged teacher, Auntie Nona Beamer, if together they might found an organization to honor Hula before knowledgeable elder practitioners passed from the earth. Beamer thought is was a great idea.
The Hula Preservation Society now includes an evolving online library and hosts many events, including panels discussions and oral history lessons designed to carry this honored island art forward.

The lovely comforter is comprised of a swirling print of tropical pink and fuchsia blooms and light green leaves on a crisp white background. It is framed with a narrow width of sage and bordered with a smaller coordinated flower scatter print. The machine-washable blanket is backed with cuddly sherpa fleece.
Four separate easy-care pillow-style bumpers alternate the large floral print with fields of solid sage and fuchsia. Masterfully embroidered pink blossoms enhance the celebration. Each section is piped with fuchsia and finished with matching ties. A gently gathered dust ruffle of solid fuchsia and sage is trimmed with the micro-flower print. A whisper-soft sage sheet of 100% cotton jersey knit completes the group.
