Each year 10,000 residents of Nantucket Island watch with a mixture of amusement and irritation as the summer population swells to 50,000. Of course, this idyllic spot (which some think means "far away island" in the ancient language of the Algonquian tribe) has seen plenty of action over the ages.
Native Americans fished there seasonally for generations. Later, Nantucket became a hub of the whaling industry. Sometime Nantucket resident Herman Melville references the island in his classic Moby Dick. After the demand for whalebone declined, a handful of resilient families toiled on, eking out a living in the place they nicknamed "The Grey Lady" for its persistent fog.
In the 1950s, a few savvy real estate developers realized that Nantucket's charmed combination of surviving Pre-Civil War architecture and heavenly coastline made it the perfect destination of choice for bands of well-heeled but sweltering east coasters longing to breath a little cool sea air.
Caring for a baby is definitely no day at the beach, but Trend Lab's breezy Nantucket Blue collection will provide you and your sleepy little sailor with a safe, cozy and very sophisticated harbor--and all for a price that won't leave you drowning in debt.
Tonal greens and blues take the helm here, assisted by accents of foamy white and rich buttery gold. The homey patched coverlet joins blocks of Madras plaid with a sailboat scatter print, a classic blue and white ticking stripe, and solid sea green.
Four safe and sturdy Madras bumpers are topped with a generous width of the ticking stripe. Each section is piped with the sailboat print and finished with matching ties. The masterfully tailored dust ruffle combines the ticking, scatter print, and plaid fabrics respectively and is punctuated with a crisp center pleat. A well-fitted sailboat sheet completes this lovely ensemble.
Prepare for smooth sailing ahead. Next stop: dreamland.
