Garage Bands have become a staple in the suburban U.S., as common as minivans and jogging strollers. This was not always the case.
Back in the ultra-conservative early 1950's, a few neighbors in a working-class community in Lubbock, Texas were less than pleased when young wannabe songwriter Charles Hardin Holley and his back-up musicians began practicing their own noisy and then bizarre-sounding mix of white country and black folk music every single night in the junk-strewn garage alongside his parents' tiny home. Holley's supportive but bewildered father grudgingly parked his car in the driveway during his son's seemingly endless jam sessions.
A few years later this gangly, bucktoothed, and bespectacled young man and his friends became Buddy Holly and The Crickets...and they helped to found Rock and Roll.
In his tragically short life Buddy Holly inspired everyone from a Memphis truck driver named Elvis to a few younger fans in far-off Liverpool, England--who later decided to call themselves The Beatles. The group reluctantly agreed the name was probably as close as they could get to calling themselves The Crickets.
In 2004, Forty-five years after he died in a plane crash, Rolling Stone ranked Buddy Holly #13 in its list of "The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time". One of his best-known hits is a very sweet and romantic upbeat ditty entitled "Peggy Sue".
N. Selby named this bright and cheery set very wisely. Their Peggy Sue collection offers decorators armfuls of pretty Texas prairie flowers in vibrant oranges, reds, and golds--all flanked by rich tonal brown and red geometric prints guaranteed to produce a spirited and distinctly spunky feminine space. Better yet, this package of soft cotton linens is so affordable even the tightest decorating budgets will have no cause to sing the blues.
The cuddly coverlet features a wide field of a simple white geo print on a milk chocolate background. A flange of tomato red and white loop print joins the charming retro floral fabric on the blanket's top. Lovely matching tomato ties along the flange add to the ensemble's successful blend of sophistication and down home country charm.
The four sturdy bumpers intersperse the lovely floral material with the chocolate geo pattern. All are backed with the geometric print and finished with red ties. A masterfully tailored tan and chocolate floral-patterned dust ruffle includes a snappy center pleat and is trimmed with the red fabric. A luxurious 200 thread count tone-on-tone gold flower sheet completes the group.
