Like many monarchs, Louis XIV was constantly worried about what his mischief-prone court was up to--and for very good reason. He knew that jealous aristocrats have a nasty habit of sitting in their far-off country homes thinking up ways to overthrow the guy in charge.
The Sun King wracked his brain, wondering what to do. Finally he decided that he would simply force all French nobles to come and live with him for months at a timeÉso that he could keep an eye on them. In order to accomplish this, Louis began fixing up a "little" palace called Versailles, which up until that time had been used as a royal hunting lodge. With the help of armies of carpenters and artisans, the place was converted into an enormous apartment complex for the upper crust.
Although lower-ranking families often found themselves stuffed into cramped and chilly quarters, the creme de la creme enjoyed all of the luxuries, including rooms decorated with endless yards of opulent damask.

A large center diamond includes a skillfully embroidered and very regal floral design surrounded by a vibrant pattern of two alternating damask blooms. The blanket is framed with a black and white diamond grid print and backed with cuddly white minky.
Four separate bumpers repeat the damask. The center of each piece is punctuated with a white embroidered panel. All are piped with black and finished with matching ties. A neatly tailored damask dust ruffle is trimmed with the diamond grid and includes a crisp center pleat. A diamond print sheet completes the group.
